Visit to Donovan and Susan

We just got back from Spring Creek, NV. Justin had a job there installing a wireless network for Ruby Mt. Heli Ski and yes, he got to snowboard out after the install. Anyway, Ethan and I decided to join him and visit our friends Donovan and Susan and their wonderful kids Ellie and little 2 month old Ronan who live there. The Ruby Mountains are beautiful. Ethan had so much fun playing with Ellie (who is 6 months older than him). He learned so much from her I was amazed. He's talking more. They have the same rocking horse and Ethan would never even sit on his until Ellie showed him how. Now he loves it. They were so sweet together and it was great to see Donovan and Susan.

Love and Logic

My cousin Tiffany posted about this book on her blog. I've read it and also found it very useful so I thought I'd share too. It's a philosophy of lovingly allowing children to learn from their mistakes, allowing them to participate in decision making by offering lots of healthy choices, and discipline that places emphasis on respect and dignity for your child. It's a really quick read.

Lipstick

Ethan's been able to reach my bathroom drawer for a while and pretends to put on chapstick and brushes his hair. Today he snuck out with the lipstick. I laughed hard when I saw he had put it on, to his delight, so he ran around the house with it laughing. I've been posting a lot but he does so many wonderful, hilarious things every day there's no way I can share them all.

Ethan Loves Sushi!

We ordered sushi takeout for dinner and put little chunks of the catepillar on a chopstick for Ethan. He loved it and kept asking for more. Maybe the sweet eel sauce had something to do with it. Anyway, we're glad because we could live off of sushi alone.

Clothes? Who Needs 'Em

Pics of Ethan from the last couple of days

We broke down a cardboard box this morning and Ethan had to take all of his favorite toys over to play on it. We decided to just eat breakfast on it.

Roast Lamb

I got a lamb roast from a local farm and made the best dinner. The marinade was:

1/2 C. olive oil
1 C fresh orange juice
Lots of chopped garlic
a bay leaf
rosemary, salt, pepper, thyme and mint ( I just threw a bunch in....don't often measure).

Ethan gobbled it. He's my little meat eater.

Visit from Julie and Gavin

Yesterday Julie and Gavin came over for a visit. I think Ethan and Gavin are going to have a lot of fun together in the years to come. Ethan already really likes him.

AK pics

Here are some pictures from Justins trip to Juneau. The first is of a view from U of AK Southeast, the second was taken at the Mendenhall glacier, and the last is of the coolest gate I've ever seen.

Sledding with Maya

We took Ethan sledding with Kate and Maya this afternoon. Ethan kind of enjoyed his first ride down with mom, but isn't quite ready for sledding yet. We always have fun with Kate and Maya though. Maya even wanted to go down by herself!

music video

So, I already mentioned that Ethan and I are into the Putumayo world
music playground series. Here is a link to a music video to a song off of one of the albums. It makes Ethan laugh: http://www.putumayo.com/video/monkeys_web_video.html

Can you believe all of this snow? WooHOO!

Quoia's fast!
We have so much snow! It's been snowing all day long. I love how everyone just gives up on everything that isn't really that important and spends the day shoveling and enjoying the snow. All of the neighbors were giddy while shovelling together and catching up.
Ethan and I would love to be out really playing in it but he woke up with a double ear infection and an eye infection. He's had a cold all week. I've taken him to the doctor before for tugging on his ears when it was actually teething that was bothering him. But, this morning he whined "ear" while tugging so there was no question. That's kind of nice. Anyway, we're still having fun- I had to drag him away from the puddle. Luckily I can stroll him around covered and warm in the chariot while I shovel (Justin's in Juneau for a conference - he's taken beautiful pics I'll have to post later).

It's supposed to snow all week! This calls for some hot chocolate and whipped cream. What do you think Ethan?
