A nice spring day

It's the first warm day in a couple of weeks so we got excited and decided to plant our cold frame. Justin planted greens, carrots and broccoli, and Ethan planted split peas from the kitchen. I knitted myself a pair of hand warmers this winter Ethan asked me to knit him a pair. I think it is so sweet that he appreciates them and likes to wear them. We have some serious yard projects to do this year including reconstructing part of our roof-top garden, and figuring out a way to cover up the vinyl fence our neighbor put up. It clashes badly with our new house colors and the old style of our house, as the rest of the fencing is wood. We can't cover it with bushes because the planting space is only ~3 feet wide. Trellising the whole side of the house would be expensive. Any ideas?

Those hand warmers are darling! We planted one of our raised beds with lettuce, spinach, carrots, beets and (of course) chard a few weeks ago when we thought it was actually spring. We've lived here long enough to know better but its hard not to get excited and motivated when a little warm weather hits! I hope those hardy little seeds survive the subsequent cold snaps...
