Baby Animal Day

We took Ethan to the American West Heritage Center to see the baby animals. He mostly wanted to look, not touch. But he did hold a turtle and loved holding the bunny. He called the piglet a mouse. On the way home he kept us entertained by making funny faces into his mirror. He even cracked himself up.

This morning he put himself in time out. I thought this was funny since he's only been in time out a couple of times in his life. He was pushing buttons on the TV and I asked him to stop. Next, he was walking into his room saying "time-out."

Ethan and Lola Digging in the Dirt

I said "dirt" before I said "soil" when Ethan and I were planting our greens. Then, I thought, someone studying soils should use the proper term, but Ethan still says dirt.

I hold you

Ethan melted my heart the other morning when he lifted his arms up and said "I hold you?" I'm lucky that he loves to be held and cuddled. I was reading him the book The Snowy Day and came to the part where the boy makes a snowball and puts it in his pocket for later. When he goes to get it, it's melted and he is very sad. Ethan said "I sad too." When we came to the part where the boy is happy because new snow is falling, Ethan said "I happy." Now he knows signs for feelings. "Silly" is his favorite. He also thinks signing grumpy is pretty funny.

My Little Sweetie

Ethan goes to a music group where they get to sing songs and play percussion. Today Ethan picked out percussion pieces and handed them to the babies who are too little to do it themselves before picking out his own. What a sweetheart.

Maguire Primrose

Now that we have a new computer I have lots of catching up to do, lots of pictures to post. I'll start with today. Ethan and I went up the canyon to photograph the maguire primrose that we saw while climbing last weekend. It is a TES (listed as threatened) plant endemic to Logan Canyon. This is the first time I've seen it. On the drive home Ethan said "Mom, I seepy...nap." He started humming so I knew he was tired. After I put him down he slept for almost 3 hours!

Playdough

My mom gave me an easy recipe for playdough:

mix into a saucepan:

1C flour
1/4 C salt
2 T cream of tartar
1C water
2 T vegetable oil
coloring

Stir constantly on low-med heat until it thickens and starts to form a ball. Cool a bit and knead. It makes a great playdough! I made Ethans pink. He loves to point out things that are "pint" and specifically asked for the "pint" playdough at Marie's.
